My Story

I started my career in Lactation when I was just 23 years old, long before I had my daughter. I began working in development for a non-profit organization right out of college. I have a degree in marketing but always wanted my career to be in service of others so fundraising seemed like a natural path. I raised money through special events, social media, and grant writing. After a couple years I begin to feel envious of the people that would actually get to put the money to use. I needed a change. I resigned from the non-profit and took a part time PR job at a small community hospital while I figured out which direction my life would head. At that time one of my assignments was to do some press for the hospital's lactation program. It was August, World Breastfeeding Week, and discovering this career was like meeting "the one". I went back to school at UCSD, moved in with my parents, and focused completely on becoming the best Lactation Consultant I could be. For the past 7 years I have been a consultant at  Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles and have done outpatient consults at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita. After moving to Santa Barbara County, I decided to embark on the journey of building a private outpatient practice. I have been working with Santa Barbara and Ventura County families for almost 2 years now, just taking a 7 month break to give birth to and nurture my own growing little one. Learning to breastfeed my own child has given me a whole new perspective and respect for my career and all the parents out there. Now I am back from maternity leave and (by the grace of God) still exclusively breastfeeding!
